Hello Houston

Image
Hello Houston!  Well I have officially been living in Houston for two and a half months and now Kevan has also moved!  We are living in the city and I'm so excited to finally get to show him around. Unpacking is a MOFO y'all when it's a boy and he doesn't understand the basics of moving dear lord save his soul.  This is my basic mood ATM

Environmentally Friendly Alternatives

Image
We are all allowed to live on the planet rent free, the least we can do is take care of it. As a zookeeper, conservationist, and tree hugging 'dirty hippie' that I have been so labeled I figured that it was time to give people alternatives that are eco-friendly, cost effective, and just all around feel good options that are easy to switch out!  The biggest change that I have committed to making is being straw free in 2016. Don't get me wrong, I love straws. But you know what sucks more than running out of wine or coke? The number of straws that don't end up in the trash. And you know what sucks about trash when you throw it away? That away doesn't mean it disappears. It goes somewhere. Not to be a Debby Downer but much of that trash gets ingested by wildlife or entangles them.  Sea Turtle with a straw stuck in nose Sea Turtle with Fork Stuck in Nose  If those don't rip your heart out take a look at this ...  Guess what?

The Bachelor Finale: Who's team are you on?

The Bachelor: Why we love it.  Before I say anything else my golden rule about deciding who I like as a contestant is if I could ever be her friend under normal circumstances. If she can't hang Ben Higgins she ain't the one.  www.thedenverchannel.com Ah... Ben Higgins. He is a stud, he is kind, he is caring, and he is just as awkward as we are. We love Ben because he honestly doesn't know how cute he is. But the real question is why do we all love the Bachelor so much? There are many reasons and for all you closet Bachelor and Bachelorette lovers out there it is time to come out.  We love the drama. I love the drama. When do we ever get to be a part of drama without actually dealing with the social / emotional / heart crushing ramifications?   As women, or at least for me, I download and demand that my friends and family download about their love lives. No matter your career path, your education, your degree ... we all have relationships and it is p

Signs of Spring

Signs of Spring Hike  This last week I was tasked to create a "signs of spring hike" at my new job at the Otter Point Creek Estuary Center in Abingdon, MD. This was my first program at this facility. Now understand that programming is old hat to me, but it is still nerve wracking when you have not done the program before AND I just got off crutches last week. So of course it makes sense to send me on a hike through the wet woods with ages 6 to adult.  14 people signed up... 31 people showed up.  Not only did that happen but it was raining.  I had two children pick up dog poop and bring it to me asking what animal it came from. I had two dads who felt compelled to make crude comments about genitals .  I am not the girl to go head to head against in a game of penis chicken. I threw down my reproductive knowledge for a wide variety of species. I have never seen two grown men turn so red. Serves them right.. don't call it a d*ck in front of a group of

Make My Week Better

Things That Make My Week Better This week was my second week at my **New Job** at the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center.  A job filled with small children, wildlife, bad taxidermy, and khaki cargo pants not by choice.  http://www.otterpointcreek.org Like us on Facebook! The ladies I work with would love you forever.  This is not my dream job, it is a good job to practice my public speaking skills though... as in a yelled at a group of homeschool children in my nice babysitting phone voice  (we all have one) and the parents responded by telling me that they didn't like rules because they believe that constricts a child's ability to grow. Sorry ma'am not here, not in my work place. I will assert my dominance with my power khaki pants.  (Don't worry I will share some pictures of that soon, they make up for themselves by making my ass look fine)  Number One.  Podcasts. I stopped I never really listened to podcasts until recently. This is because I truly do

Relationships are not one size fits all.

After speaking with one of my best-friend-soul-sister-pre-puberty-friends this last week about relationships I feel that I have something important to say... LADIES PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD (wine, cheese, puppies)  PLEASE LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SAY... Make sure you are dating one of your best friends by that I mean that our relationships with our significant others should reflect the relationship with have with our best friends.  Now let me explain myself.  I am not a relationship expert, I just have had some experience in the trial and error department.  I love my boyfriend, I do not like him all the time.  I love my best friends, I do not like them all the time.  Now. That being said I strongly believe that too many young women are looking for that hopeless romantic that we see in the movies. But LADIES PLEASE, relationships are not like sisterhood of the traveling pants. What looks good on one girl is NOT going to feel right on you.
